Why do some memories stay with us while others fade away? Anika Mehta '27 explored that question through her Comenius Project, "The Key to Our Memories."
Combining a case study with extensive research on the brain, Anika investigated how memories are formed, stored, and remembered. She also created a 10-episode podcast, "The Brain Feed," to share her research and insights on memory.
Reflecting on her experience, she said, “The experience and lessons I learned from this project are ones I will never take for granted. When a person is passionate about something, learning about it isn't considered time-consuming work, but is instead interesting and thought-provoking.”

Through his Comenius Project, "Restoring a 1947 Jukebox," Axel LeRoy '27 restored a 1947 Seeburg Trashcan, also known as the R2D2 Jukebox, to its original factory specifications while exploring the engineering and design behind one of the most iconic music machines of its era.
Starting with an original, untouched machine, Axel researched the jukebox's remote selector and wall-box circuitry and successfully restored the selector unit, main amplifier, cabinet wiring, and other electrical components, returning the machine to full working condition.
Through this project, he combined his interests in engineering, electronics, and restoration while bringing a piece of history back to life.
The Comenius Project, part of our Comenius Independent Study Program, allows students to pursue self-directed research and creative inquiry, showcasing their curiosity, critical thinking, and passion for learning within our community.
