Today was the the 2026 Undergraduate Research Showcase, presented by the Office of Undergraduate Research!

📚 First three slides: Haley Gomes shares her research on grief representation in children’s literature. She was awarded the competitive Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Scholarship which funded the project she presented.

Meet the major!

Haley Gomes is a junior. This is her first year at Boise State, but she’s already made a big impact!

Through the Work-U program, Hailey worked with Make-a-Wish in a communication role, she says, which set her up for her career.

This semester, Haley worked with Dr. Taladay-Carter to research grief representation in children’s literature. Haley used her background in childcare to create a project that analyzes how books teach children about chronic illness and loss of ability.

“This opportunity added richness to what I do at Boise State,” Haley said.
