OMG, you guys! I cannot with these smiles and cute faces 🥰
Just a quick heads‑up for next Friday (6/26) and the week following:
I’ll be helping Dave and running the daycare next Friday, and then running things mostly on my own the following week while he recovers. That means lots of hands‑on, physical work throughout the day, so simple is going to be best.
A few families have already chosen to keep their kiddos home next Friday to help lighten the load, and I appreciate that more than you know. Every bit of flexibility helps during this stretch.
Please bring extremely easy breakfasts only.
No extra snacks or lunches at all during this period — I will send those home at drop‑off if they come in. Keeping things streamlined is the only way I can manage the day smoothly while I’m solo.
I’ll absolutely try to help extra where I can — I just need things to be as simplified as possible to keep our routine consistent and calm for the kids.
Text communication will be limited, especially next Friday. I know many of you love photos and little updates (especially for the babies), but that won’t be realistic while I’m balancing both caregiving and the daycare. I’ll communicate anything important right away, and everything else when I get a moment.
Outdoor time:
There will be no morning outside time for about 1–2 weeks after surgery. I will make sure we get outside in the afternoons — I can set up the backyard during naps while Dave monitors the kids resting. We clean toys off the grass every night to keep it healthy, so afternoons will still be a go.
We also want to say thank you. I’ve heard some frustrations, and I truly understand. We’re navigating a lot right now while staying compliant, showing up for our families, and caring for the community we’ve built here.
Our next planned closure after surgery day (Thursday 6/25) will be Wednesday, 8/12 for the first day of school.
We finally heard back from the surgeon around 3:45 today after weeks of trying to get answers. They would like to move forward with surgery next Thursday. Tomorrow we’ll be scheduling Dave’s procedure for Thursday, 6/25, and we will be closed that day. This will be an unpaid closure. I’m not able to safely run the daycare alone, and I need to be with him when he comes out of surgery. He’ll be in the surgery center from roughly 12–4 p.m.
When we say we’ve never had a year like 2026, we truly mean it.
• Court support to help someone
• Norovirus
• A sudden family loss
• Harper’s medical issues
• Now surgery
It has been one thing after another, and we are genuinely so sorry for the hand we’ve been dealt and how it has affected others. We never take these closures lightly.
We’re choosing to do this surgery now so that Dave is fully healed by the time our girls go back to school in August and before we welcome more little ones joining us at the end of July and early August. Our goal is to make sure we’re stable, healthy, and fully present for the busy season ahead.
We hope that cancelling some of the other days we originally planned to take off with our daughters helps ease the impact a bit. We deeply appreciate the kindness, patience, and understanding we’ve been shown. We truly couldn’t feel luckier to have families who choose us to be part of their village every day.
Here’s to a smooth surgery and quick recovery!
♥️ Taya & Dave
Just clarifying:
We are no longer going to be closed 7/3 or 7/20. We will be open those days, and I’ll let everyone know his surgery date once we have it scheduled.
We are still working through everything for Dave’s surgery this year; he has an umbilical hernia that needs to be repaired. He will be taking a backseat during daycare for 1-2 weeks at least, mainly less lifting. It will require additional closure(s), so we are going to be open July 3rd & July 20th to lessen the time away. We are so sorry for the back n forth. 2026 has really thrown us curveballs, and we are doing the best we can to navigate being a supportive place for you and your little ones, while taking care of us too. ♥️
As soon as we know the surgery date, we will let everyone know asap. We are hoping to have it done this summer while our own children are out of school and we are lower on daycare kids.

The heat is upon us. We will be spending a lot of time outside, enjoying the fresh air! Please bring a hat if you’d like your little to wear one. Our backyard is pretty well covered in shade after nap time.
