We're extending a special congratulations to Construction Management alum Neil Nelson '94 on being named a 2026 CEO of Influence by the Idaho Business Review! For 16 years, Idaho Business Review has recognized leaders across industries who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to their organizations and communities.

As an alum, Nelson has given back to the Boise State University community, ensuring the future of Idaho's construction industry is built by Boise State Broncos. This support culminated in a multi-million-dollar gift to support the new ESI Construction Management Building, slated for an opening in the fall of 2026.

Boise State University has forged new partnerships to expand its global impact.

Leaders from Boise State and Minghsin University of Science and Technology officially signed a historic partnership agreement focused on advancing student opportunities, research collaboration, and innovation in engineering and technology to advance Idaho's semiconductor ecosystem.

This partnership builds upon more than 40 years of economic and educational ties between Idaho and Taiwan. As Idaho’s second-largest trading partner, Taiwan established a sister-state relationship with Idaho in the early 1980s.

Boise State University's innovation is sparking impact on the national stage.

A multidisciplinary student team from Boise State ECE and the School of Computing, Team Synaptic, was named a Top 10 Finalist in the prestigious Semiconductor Solutions Challenge 2026—competing alongside more than 150 students from across the country.

From advanced semiconductor packaging to automated chip design workflows, these graduate students are tackling real-world industry challenges with cutting-edge, physics-informed solutions.

Our leadership from the College of Engineering, together with our colleagues in Corporate & Foundation Partnerships and Government Relations, recently had the chance to spend time with some of our incredible industry partners across the state.

The team traveled from state line to state line visiting towns like Soda Springs, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and up to the Palouse in Moscow and Pullman, Washington. Each stop told its own story of innovation, resilience, and a shared investment in our state's future.

These conversations remind us why our work matters. COEN is committed to showing up, listening, and learning what drives Idaho’s economy. By building meaningful partnerships across the state, our students aren't just prepared, but sought after as the first and best choice for careers in Idaho and our workforce. Together with our partners, we're helping position Idaho as a national competitor with global impact, while strengthening our role as a trusted contributor to communities across the state.

Boise State Civil Engineering graduate student Shreya Mul's innovation is shaping the future of infrastructure resilience. Her research earned a first place at the. GeoCongress Conference for her research on hydrophobic soil stabilization. This emerging solution to reduce costly damage to roads, foundations, and buildings.

Mul's work goes beyond the lab, contributing to NSF-supported research on energy-water systems and infrastructure resilience in Idaho. By addressing real-world challenges like expansive soils and water storage, her research is turning local impact into Boise State University solutions that matter.
