Gan Israel Shaloh House (29 Chestnut Hill Ave, Brighton) is participating in the Summer Food Service Program from June 29 through August 7, 2026.

During this time, we will be providing free kosher (cholov yisrael and glatt kosher) breakfasts and lunches for all children.

📍 Location: Shaloh House Parking Lot Site, 29 Chestnut Hill Ave, Brighton
🥣 Breakfast: 10:00 – 11:00 am
🍽 Lunch: 12:20 – 2:00 pm

Please note: this summer, meals will be served on-site in the parking lot gazebo (dine-in only). The grab-and-go option is no longer available.

Founded in 1635, Boston Latin School is the oldest public school in the United States — even older than Harvard University by a year. Originally created to prepare boys for Harvard through intensive study of Latin and Greek, the school became one of the most prestigious academic institutions in America.

Over the centuries, its alumni have included five signers of the Declaration of Independence — among them Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams — as well as composer Leonard Bernstein, philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, and actress Ayo Edebiri.

One famous Boston joke says that Harvard was founded “just so the boys from Boston Latin would have somewhere to go.”

The school is still known today for its intense academics, competitive admissions process, and almost mythical status in Boston culture. Its motto, “Sumus Primi” — “We are first” — is both historically accurate and very much part of the school’s personality.
