A majestic four masted barque, the BAP Unión's journey began when her keel was laid on December 8, 2012, before she was officially commissioned on January 27, 2016. Featuring a striking steel hull and stretching over 378 feet long, she was built to serve as a floating academy for the next generation of sailors.

Since 2016, she has proudly sailed the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, carrying Peruvian Navy cadets to far-reaching corners of the globe. True to the tradition of great tall ships, BAP Unión serves as a proud traveling ambassador for her country during these voyages, sharing Peruvian culture and maritime heritage with the world.

Come see this modern marvel of the seas when she joins the spectacular fleet of Tall Ships gathering for Sail Boston! BAP Unión will be berthed at Seaport’s Commonwealth Pier.

Meet Oosterschelde, the largest restored Dutch sailing ship and one of the Netherlands most treasured maritime landmarks. Built in 1918, this three masted topsail schooner is the last remaining representative of the large fleet of schooners that once sailed under the Dutch flag in the early 20th century.

Today, Oosterschelde serves as a living monument to Dutch shipbuilding and the age of sail. Based in Rotterdam, the beautifully restored vessel continues to sail around the world, preserving the traditions of maritime navigation while showcasing more than a century of history.

Meet Sagres, the sail training ship of the Portuguese Navy. Built in 1937 at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, this impressive steel hulled barque has become a symbol of Portugal's rich maritime tradition. Today, she serves as a floating classroom where Navy cadets develop marine skills while sailing around the world.

Sagres has a rather unique international history, having served under multiple flags before Portugal acquired the vessel in 1961 and gave her her current name and mission. A sister ship to the USCGC Eagle, Romania's Mircea, and Germany's Gorch Fock, she continues to represent Portugal on the global stage. In 2010, Sagres completed a circumnavigation of the globe, sailing more than 35,000 nautical miles and further cementing her place among the world's most celebrated tall ships.

Our next ship profile is Mircea, the official training ship of the Romanian Navy! Built in 1938 at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, this impressive 266-foot barque has spent decades training sailors while representing Romania at sail training festivals and maritime events around the world.

Mircea also has some fascinating history behind her. She was captured by the Soviet Union during World War II and later returned to Romania in 1946, she went on to become one of the country's most recognizable maritime symbols. As a sister ship to the USCG Eagle, Portugal’s Sagres, and Germany’s Gorch Fock, Mircea continues to preserve the traditions of tall ship sailing while inspiring future generations of seafarers.
