Meet Rai Ramirez-Barbosa, a Principles of Interior Architecture student and designer whose path from the Dominican Republic to Boston is fueled by passion, persistence, and purpose.

At the BAC, Rai has strengthened her design process through coursework and studio work, learning how to move ideas from concept to ex*****on with care and intention. She credits the iterative process she has developed here with helping her grow as a designer and better understand the value of each stage of a project.

Alongside her studies, Rai has spent the past four years working at Flow Design Architects, where she has contributed to residential and commercial projects that blend creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem solving.

Happy Pride Month from the BAC! For us, celebrating Pride Month means honoring the voices and leaders who shaped the fight for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights.

Marsha P. Johnson was a Black transgender activist, artist, and a pivotal figure in the Stonewall uprising of 1969. Her advocacy and community care helped lay the foundation for modern LGBTQIA+ movements.

At the Boston Architectural College, we are proud to support a diverse community of students, designers, and thinkers whose identities and perspectives shape the future of the built environment. This Pride Month, we celebrate the creativity, contributions, and lived experiences of our 2SLGBTQIA+ community—on campus and beyond.

At the Boston Architectural College, Commencement is an opportunity not only to celebrate our graduates, but also to recognize those whose leadership has strengthened the College from within.

We are proud to announce that Judy Nitsch, founding principal of Nitsch Engineering and former Chair of the BAC Board of Trustees, will receive the degree of Doctor of Design Leadership Honoris Causa for Service to the College at our 2026 Commencement.

Judy’s leadership has played a vital role in advancing the BAC’s mission and future, particularly during her tenure as Board Chair from 2021 to 2025. Her service has been marked by clarity, integrity, and a deep commitment to the College and its students.

As an engineer and entrepreneur, Judy has built a firm with wide-ranging impact across civil, structural, and transportation engineering, as well as planning, land surveying, and resilience and green infrastructure. Her career reflects both technical excellence and a sustained commitment to sustainability and the public good.

We are honored to celebrate Judy Nitsch’s contributions to the BAC and to recognize her as an enduring example of leadership and service. She will be honored alongside Mario Schjetnan, Lee Pelton, and Taniya Nayak at Commencement 2026.
