Please join us in congratulating Keith Brown on his appointment as head of the Division of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), effective July 1, 2026.
Keith is an associate professor of mechanical engineering, MSE, and physics whose research spans advanced materials, automation, and AI-enabled experimentation, helping accelerate materials discovery through collaborative, cross-disciplinary research.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to David Bishop for 15 years of leadership, mentorship, and service as the head of MSE. Under David’s leadership, the division strengthened its research excellence and collaborative impact across engineering, science, and medicine.

BU’s FloraSynse team earned gold 🏆 at the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Grand Jamboree, often described as the Olympics of synthetic biology. Their at-home diagnostic for bacterial vaginosis uses daily sampling and continuous monitoring to provide a more accurate picture of vaginal microbiome health than traditional one-time tests.
