We are a community of self-directed learners freely creating, playing, collaborating, and exploring.

โ“ What happens when learners are given the freedom to explore a question that genuinely interests them?

At Spark ALC, our Big Question Project challenges learners to investigate complex questions, conduct research, consider multiple perspectives, and share what they discover with others.

This year's projects explored topics ranging from ethics and criminal justice to technology, psychology, history, and human behavior. Along the way, learners practiced research, critical thinking, communication, and the ability to support their ideas with evidence.

More importantly, they learned that meaningful learning often begins with curiosity.

Some graduation photos are formal.

This is not one of them. ๐Ÿ˜‚

One of the best parts of Spark ALC is the friendships learners build along the way. Weโ€™re proud of our graduates and grateful for the community theyโ€™ve created together.

๐ŸŒฟ A glimpse from Spark ALCโ€™s Teen Summer Enrichment Program.

This three-night adventure was planned in partnership with our teens who helped make decisions about the trip and experiences.

Together, they explored two of Floridaโ€™s springs, spent a half day tubing, shared meals, stayed in an Airbnb, strengthened friendships, and created memories that will last far beyond the summer.

Experiences like these help young people build community, practice independence, develop confidence, and discover more about themselves and the world around them.

What if school built community, inspired adventure, sparked curiosity, and developed purpose?

We are feeling all the feels this final week of school! We have both part-time and full-time learners with us for the full week and celebrations almost every day. Here is a message to Roots families from our Ms. Brittany:

Oh this crew ๐Ÿ˜ญโค๏ธ it is so special having this week open for all learners!

We spent a lot of time this morning reflecting on all the different ways we are feeling with it being the last week of school. Some emotions that came up were - excited, nervous, happy, bored, overwhelmed to name a few! We talked about how some of us are feeling two or more feelings at once and how to be respectful in a group when your feelings may differ from someone elseโ€™s.
We spent a lot of time putting those finishing touches on the showcase projects!! No more pictures of those though, as it the final countdown, so it stays a surprise! ๐Ÿ˜€ Also the support that surrounded one learner today as they made some big progress on their science experiment was just exactly the kind of community we are trying to create at Spark.

Thank you for allowing your little ones to be a part of this year with us! I truly adore each one of them so much & all of the uniqueness that comes with each person!

WOW. We did it!!! ๐Ÿ’›

Together, we raised $4,430 during the Giving Challenge! And that does not even include the donor match. With matching funds, we are expecting over $7,000 total!!

We are unbelievably grateful and so proud of our rockstar community for showing up in such a big way. This is what makes Spark special.

New play equipment, here we come! ๐Ÿ™Œ

We also have some more incredible individual donors to thank:
Dan Ryan, Lauren Kinsella, Leslie Gooding, Isaac Bitar, Calvin Simpson, Kris Stevenson, Amanda Escobio, Michelle Breakstone, Leah Reeve, Sarah Gaudette, and our secret anonymous donor!

And a truly ginormous shoutout to parent volunteers Andrea Mueller and Bianca Hellenga, who put in way, way, way more than typical volunteer hours and went completely above and beyond over the past 3 months to help plan and create for this event. We could not have done this without you.

Phew. What a moment. Congrats to all of us at Spark, and thank you to every single one of our amazing supporters!
