Manatee Literacy Council's mission is to empower people to independence through literacy skills. Please consider volunteering to change another adult's life!

Our primary goal is to meet the critical need for a more literate community by helping Manatee County adults with limited literacy skills learn to read, write, understand, and speak English well enough to meet the demands of daily life, to improve their potential for meaningful employment, and to enhance the quality of life for themselves and their families. We serve as an advocate for the need to

LA GUIA SRQ - JUNIO 2026 06/04/2026

We're honored to be featured in the June 2026 edition of La GuĆa Sarasota in an article highlighting the power of literacy to transform lives and strengthen our community.

The article explores how literacy goes far beyond reading and writing. It means helping a child with homework, understanding important information, applying for a job, gaining confidence, and fully participating in community life.

For nearly 50 years, the Manatee Literacy Council has provided free literacy and English language services to adults throughout Manatee County. Every day, we see the difference that literacy makes for learners, families, employers, and our community as a whole.

Thank you to La GuĆa Sarasota for helping shine a light on the importance of adult literacy and the incredible determination of the learners we serve.

We’re excited to share that the Manatee Literacy Council has been awarded a $21,718 grant from the Manatee Matches Giving Circle of the Manatee Community Foundation!

This funding will help us:
šŸ“š Sustain free in-person English classes at local libraries
šŸ’» Expand access to the Ellii learning platform
šŸš— Launch our new English for Driving program
šŸ¤ Strengthen our long-term impact in the community

One of our learners recently shared:
šŸ’¬ ā€œBecause of these classes, I got a better job and feel braver!ā€

That’s the power of literacy.

But the work isn’t done—this is a matching grant, and we need community support to unlock its full impact by December 31.

With 68,000 adults in Manatee County struggling with low literacy, your support helps open doors to jobs, confidence, and opportunity. Read more here: https://manatee-literacy.org/news/adult-literacy-programs-manatee-county-grant/
