Community Maternal Child & Family Health S/Heros:

In 2006, Terri Lewis Ball was hired as a contingent worker with a 1-year contract. Eighteen years later, she continues, in remembrance of her mentor, Sister Georgianna Glose, DSW, the Founding Executive Director. Sister Glose was amongst the earliest victims of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Terri, a graduate from The College of New Rochelle with an Associate Degree in Business Administration is the Lead SNAP staff and Office Manager.

In 1997, Sister Elizabeth Hill was appointed Chair of the Fort Greene SNAP Board. She was the President of St. Joseph's College, which she led for 17 years. She also has a master’s degree from Columbia University and a Juris Doctor from St. John's School of Law.

Sister Georgianna Glose
I. Sister Glose is the founder of Fort Greene SNAP. SNAP emerged as collaborative task force supported by the leadership of the local Myrtle Ave BID and other community stakeholders, including BPN, NYS Assembly member Roger Green Office, concerned about high Infant Mortality and Morbidity rates in the community.
She had a deep and profound respect for all people. Her determination to find ways to assist the low-income residents of Fort Greene resulted in her creating Fort Greene SNAP entrepreneur program. The program helped residents start their own small business that required them to earn at least $1,500.00 after the end of the program. Residents made clothes, sold soap,
and started a dessert business. SNAP also provided an educational program that would uplift people in the neighborhood, reuniting NYC Administration for Children (ACS) involved families and helping them to change their economic status. SNAP other free programs may surprise you.
II. What is known about Fort Greene SNAP?
It is not a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, although many mistakenly walk-in seeking food assistances and then receive referrals. Sister Glose, of the sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville, knew that “an ask for help” is not something to ignore from families parenting children and particularly the seniors in the ACS Kingship Forster Care system. SNAP focuses on educational and informational programs that help families impacted by the Family Court system to improve their economic situation, through work readiness support.
III.Fort Greene SNAP Programs
The service model is ‘walk-in’. The programs include but are not limited to referrals for a range of services; computer training for resume writing; finding rental assistance to help with New York City housing costs. Two rewarding programs are parenting lessons and anger management.

Anger Management Program
Essentials skills help people navigate personal and professional feelings when encountered by aggressive people or placed in negative situations that could turn violent.

A seven-week workshop program helps parents to re-connect with children taken from homes and placed in Foster Care.
