Get • Today, we are recognizing the 161st anniversary of .
On June 19, 1865, the last African Americans who had been held in slavery in Galveston, Texas learned of their long-withheld freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Here at , we honor every voice in every classroom.
Black history is American history, and we are proud to educate our students about it through our Juneteenth Resource Guide, Hidden Voices: Global African Diaspora Volume 1 and Volume 2 curricula, and more.
Students, families, and staff members can check out our website for more resources and places to visit to commemorate the holiday: schools.nyc.gov/Juneteenth
