Congratulations to Brooklyn Law School alumna Hon. Sandra E. Roper '87 who will be honored during a Caribbean Heritage Month celebration hosted today at the Kings County Supreme Court, Criminal Term!

A prominent member of Brooklyn Law School’s alumni community and a judge serving in the Civil Court of Kings County, she was recognized for her leadership, service, and contributions to the legal profession and the Caribbean American community. Her achievement reflects the impact Brooklyn Law alumni continue to make in the courts, the profession, and beyond.

Alumni and friends are invited to join an outdoor street-naming ceremony celebrating the remarkable legacy of educator, advocate, and Brooklyn Law School adjunct professor Marilú Galván ’89.

The intersection of 145th Street and Riverside Drive will be co-named “Dr. Marilú Galván Way” in honor of Galván, who dedicated her life to education and empowering New York City’s Dominican community.

As executive director of the Centro Civico Cultural Dominicano, educator, administrator, and mentor, Galván left an enduring impact on generations of students and community members.

Guests are invited to enjoy coffee and an exhibition before the ceremony, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Brooklyn Law School adjunct professor Andrew Strom recently joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss a major labor law case involving workers at Trinity Health Grand Haven Hospital, who voted 89-66 to retain their union after their employer withdrew recognition.

Professor Strom breaks down the 2 to 1 Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruling, which denied the National Labor Relations Board’s efforts to obtain a preliminary injunction against the employer.

That’s why Brooklyn Law School has built a forward-looking sports law program grounded in experiential learning, including hands-on externships and New York City’s only Sports Law Clinic.

This approach—combined with strong industry outcomes and NYC location advantages—has positioned Brooklyn Law School as a national leader in the field.
