Right now I'm back at New Utrecht High School in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, because I'm streamwatching Welcome Back Kotter, the hilarious show about the Sweathogs, Comedian Gabe Kaplan, who played Mr. Kotter, grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and went to New Utrecht High School (that's the school shown in the opening credits as James Buchanan High) John Travolta was Barbarino!

New Utrecht High School was established in 1915 in wooden building on 86 st/18th Ave started out as an all- boys school only at that location then in 1924 the school moved to its present location on 80 st/ 16 Ave

I taught at New Utrecht from 1963 until I retired in 2002. If anyone is interested the first principal in the current building 1601 80th Street was named Harry Potter.
Before opening the current location the school was located where the New Utrecht public library is located.
