Carolina wild petunia (Ruellia caroliniensis) is found throughout the state, along with a few other species of wild petunia. It is a modest perennial in the Acanthaceae family, with a tough root and fertile seeds (which means it spreads around and is hard to pull out!). But it’s worth keeping as it’s the larval host plant for the common buckeye butterfly.

"Happy National W**d Day”Remember, it’s the one day of the year where we can all appreciate how much effort we put into growing flowers and vegetables... only to have them compete with those pesky w**ds for attention! Just think of them as nature's way of reminding us that gardening is a team sport. So let's raise a glass (of water, of course) to those green invaders—may they inspire us to w**d out the bad vibes and cultivate some humor in our gardens! 🌱😂"
