By refusing to acknowledge coercive control, family courts assist in child abuse.

When both parents are labelled "high conflict" by family courts there is almost always one unhealthy parent who engages in coercive control that the courts refuse to understand and acknowledge.

Often that unhealthy parent has Cluster B (narcissistic, antisocial, borderline and histrionic) personality disorder traits, particularly the first two listed.

Instead of getting much needed protection and support, these victims of coercive control are ignored and if the unhealthy parent has more funds to spend on court or is an adept charismatic actor, the children may be put into unsafe situations and silenced. If the unhealthy parent claims parental alienation , family courts are tearing children away and handing them over to abusers. Much more often than not the abuser gets primary custody and the healthy parent may not see their children for at least 90 days, often required to have supervised parenting time subsequently.

The children are gaslit; told abuse is love and that their loving protective parent is a threat. Some never return to their healthy parent until they age out of family court.
