The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education has approved a calendar change for all schools on the traditional academic calendar for Friday, May 1, 2026. We are sharing this information in advance, so families have time to make necessary arrangements.
All elementary, middle and high schools on the traditional academic calendar will observe a teacher workday. There will be no school for students at these schools.
All UNCC Early Colleges and CPCC Early and Middle Colleges will operate as normal, with no changes to their schedules.
We are aware that many educators across North Carolina plan to participate in a statewide day of advocacy in Raleigh focused on public education. As a result, we anticipate a high number of staff absences across the district, along with a limited number of substitute teachers to provide coverage.
To ensure we can prioritize student safety and maintain appropriate supervision, we are proactively adjusting the schedule.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools remains committed to supporting our educators and ensuring every student has access to a high-quality learning environment. We also recognize the importance of civic engagement and advocacy for the future of public education.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

School is operating on a normal schedule Thursday, February 5th
After closely monitoring weather conditions, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will operate on a regular school and district schedule on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026.
While CMS will operate as normal, we encourage our students, staff, and families to drive with caution. Please be patient as you return to school and give yourself plenty of time to reach your bus stop or school. Bus transportation will proceed with caution, and delayed arrivals are possible. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and patience as we work together to support a safe and successful return to school.
Please note:
All before-school and after-school programs (BSEP and ASEP) will operate as normal.
All Community Use of Schools activities will operate as normal.
Middle school athletic events will operate as normal, and high school athletic events will be rescheduled.
Extracurricular activities will operate as normal.

After closely monitoring weather conditions and in coordination with local and state officials, all CMS district, school, and work locations will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026. This includes the cancellation of all school activities and programs, including Before-School Enrichment Programs (BSEP) and After-School Enrichment Programs (ASEP), as well as Community Use of Schools.
Because this instructional day is waived by the Superintendent, we will not use a designated make-up instructional day on the 2025-26 academic calendar.
Mid-Year Graduation Update:
Given the current weather conditions and our commitment to safety, we are moving our mid-year graduation to the alternate date of February 12. Additional information will be shared with you this week from school and district leaders. Please note that the scheduled time of your graduation will not change.
All CMS buildings will remain closed to allow our teams time to prepare schools and ensure safety. This includes clearing ice and debris from school campuses, checking bus routes and secondary roadways, and confirming that schools are ready for reopening.
We will continue monitoring National Weather Service updates and keep you informed of any district or school schedule changes, if necessary. You can also learn more about our Inclement Weather monitoring and procedures at www.cmsk12.org
The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our top priority.
Thank you for your continued support of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
