A man retrieves a rifle from his vehicle and heads toward the church.
Now what?

These are exactly the kinds of scenarios church safety teams need opportunities to work through before they matter.

If your church safety team is looking to build real world skills and confidence, join us for our NC PPSB Approved Rapid Response Course, designed to help church safety teams build real world skills and confidence through scenario based active threat training., or contact us to schedule recurring training customized to your team.

Much respect to this church safety team. They're relatively new to scenario training, but they continue to show up, put in the work, and get the reps in every month.
That's how teams grow.
Not by being perfect.
By being willing to learn, make mistakes in training, and continue improving together.

After every scenario, we slow things down, debrief what happened, identify opportunities for growth, reinforce proper techniques and tactics, and then run it again.

Because when it comes to protecting your congregation, preparation matters.
Train before it matters.

What would your plan be?
From the outside, it's easy to think through a stage. From the competitor's perspective, it's a different story.
You're working the problem in real time, processing information as it appears, and trying to put together a solid run one decision at a time.

Way to get after it, Sir.

The Shoot House Match Competition is designed to challenge competitors with stages that reward preparation, adaptability, and problem solving when things don't go exactly as planned.

How would you have run this stage?

06/21/2026

The bad guy screamed.
This couple collectively decided, "Absolutely not."
And honestly... they're not alone.
We've all been there - knowing a scenario is coming and experiencing it are two very different things.
The nerves are real.
The adrenaline is real.
And that's exactly why this kind of training is so valuable.

Scenario training gives us the opportunity to experience those stress responses in a learning environment, work through them, and build confidence over time.

Getting startled doesn't mean you've failed.
It means you're human.

The important part is slowing things down afterward, identifying what happened, reinforcing solid techniques and tactics, and then running it again.
Because growth rarely happens inside our comfort zones.

Anyone else have a moment in training where your nervous system made a decision before your brain caught up?

Come train with us at A+R Tactics and build real world skills and confidence through force on force scenario training.

You can see the moment reality catches up.
The participant had no idea the bad guy was behind him.
The bad guy could have ended the scenario right there.
Instead, he let him keep working.

Then came the scream...

If you've ever been startled in training, you know exactly how quickly your heart rate can spike.
That's one of the reasons scenario training is so valuable.
The unexpected happens.
Adrenaline shows up.
And suddenly all those skills have to be applied in real time.

Much respect to this participant. He got surprised, stayed engaged, got his shots on target, and kept working the problem.
That's training.

After every rep, we slow things down, debrief, identify what went well, reinforce proper techniques and tactics, and then run it again.
Because growth doesn't come from getting everything right.
It comes from being willing to learn.

What would your reaction have been?

This week, we're revisiting the full scenario behind two shorts shared on our social media. From the participant's helmet cam, you'll see the moment his attention shifts and the consequences that followed. From the bad guy's perspective, you'll see how quickly a small lapse can create a major disadvantage.

Then we'll slow it down.

Together, we'll watch the full scenario, share the debrief, highlight community comments, answer your questions, and explore the lessons learned around threat prioritization, positioning, and why the details matter.

Because none of us gets everything right straight out of the gate.

The goal isn't perfection.

The goal is to keep learning.

Slow it down. Debrief. Learn from it. Run it again.

"Little nerve-wracking, huh." "It was!"

It's so different when it's your wife! At the end of the scenario, he expressed just how intense and stressful the experience was for him.

And that's the point.

Scenario training has a way of turning abstract ideas into very real problems to solve. It challenges us to think, communicate, manage our emotions, and work through situations that carry weight.

Much respect to this couple for stepping into the unknown together and being willing to learn side by side.

Training isn't about having all the answers.
It's about building skills, identifying areas for growth, and gaining confidence through experience.
The best students never stop being students.

Who do you train with?

Come train with us at A+R Tactics. Whether you're coming on your own, with your spouse, or with a group of friends, all skill levels are welcome.

Getting shot in training isn't the end of the rep.
It's information.

This participant is brand new to force on force scenario training. He missed something important and paid for it. But he kept moving. Stayed engaged. Solved the problem. Put all three rounds where they needed to go.
That's not failure.
That's training.

Nobody starts this journey perfect. We debrief every rep, identify what can be improved, and Run It Again.

Join us for Run It Again, every Thursday at 7:00 PM ET on our YouTube, Facebook, or TikTok as we watch the scenario in full, join the debrief following it, answer community questions, and continue the conversations already happening in the comments.

This Thursday, 6/18, we'll take a deeper dive into this exact scenario, share some Behind The Scenes, and explore the lessons that come from being new, making mistakes, and continuing to work the problem.
The goal isn't to win the comment section.
The goal is to keep learning.

From the crow's nest, you get to see the entire puzzle unfold.

When does the competitor use light?
How do they navigate the unknowns?
What choices would you make differently?
How would you run it?

The Shoot House Match is built to challenge more than marksmanship. It rewards adaptability, decision making, and the ability to apply solid fundamentals when things stop being comfortable.

No two competitors solve the problem exactly the same way.
That's part of what makes it so much fun to watch.
And even more rewarding to step into yourself.

Think you've got what it takes?

Tunnel vision has a price.
Watch closely.
As this participant moves into the next room, his attention shifts elsewhere. From the threat's perspective, the opening is obvious.

This is why we train.

Force on force scenario training gives us the opportunity to identify our blind spots, learn from our mistakes, and build better habits before it matters.

Join us Thursday, 6/18 at 7:00 PM ET for Run It Again on our YouTube, Facebook, or TikTok. We'll break down this exact scenario in full, share some Behind The Scenese, answer community questions, and continue the conversations happening in the comments.

Slow it down. Debrief. Learn from it. Run It Again.

It's easy to talk about retention skills.
It's another thing entirely to apply them when someone is actively fighting back.
This competitor had to work through the grappling portion of the stage, fight for retention, access his firearm, and get effective shots on the threat before running the rest of his stage. Solid work, Sir!

That's easier said than done.
The Shoot House Match is designed to challenge competitors in ways that go beyond standing still and shooting at static targets. It rewards problem solving, adaptability, solid fundamentals, and the ability to perform when things stop being comfortable.
