This special lecture will explore the fascinating history of Tryon Palace — from its origins as the residence of North Carolina’s Royal Governor to its evolving role during and after the American Revolution.
Presented by historian Rachel C. Kirby, this program is part of the 2026 “Between the Great Wars” series, examining pivotal moments in North Carolina history as we approach the semi quincentennial of the Declaration of Independence.

We had fantastic Sip & Sketch this past Friday at MESDA
Participants explored three beautifully curated rooms spanning different periods, practicing measured drawing and sharpening their observational skills in a truly inspiring setting each space offered something unique to study and capture. ✏️ 📒

Drawing on 20 years of experience, Jay will share how to create gardens that are magical, immersive, and emotionally resonant—not simply “decorated yards.” He’ll explore rhythm, lines, shapes, and light, along with techniques like using scrim to create theater in the landscape.
