When Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) made its historic FIFA World Cup debut, one of the faces capturing the world’s attention was Johnson C. Smith University’s own Dr. Terza Lima Neves.

A proud Cabo Verdean and JCSU Political Science Professor and administrator, Dr. Lima Neves was overcome with emotion as her homeland took the world stage for the first time. FIFA cameras captured the moment, and the video quickly went viral, reaching millions around the globe.

Beyond the stands, Dr. Lima Neves also served as the diplomatic lead for the Cabo Verde World Cup Welcome Committee in Atlanta, helping coordinate visits by government officials - including the President of Cabo Verde, José Maria Neves - FIFA leaders, and members of the Cabo Verdean diaspora.
