A student came to me about this issue. This person does such a good job explaining, I wish I had heard it earlier.

Why is teaching in high school difficult? One of the challenges of being a teacher is realizing that you can't teach content without relationships. If you love your content, but don't care about your kids, then the ones who really need it, won't hear you. So less content can actually mean more learning, especially for at-risk students. But, you love your subject and probably majored in it. You are constantly being told to test, reflect, and get all the standards in. It is easy to lose focus of your why. I know I have lost sight of it on my journey. I should have made a poster out of it and posted it in my classroom. Now that I am a support person, my why has changed a little. So, here is my new poster, my new why:
Insure that all students get the support they need to reach their goals (graduating high school/GED/Job training) by giving them a trusted adult in life. #504
