๐Freedom School 2026 has begun!!๐
To kick off the summer, scholars and their Servant Leader Interns dedicated the day building classroom community and strengthening connections. ๐ Team building activities help establish trust, respect, and a sense of belonging that creates the foundation for a successful Freedom School experience.

๐ Site Deployment Day is HERE-and Freedom School is only ONE WEEK away! ๐
Today, our Freedom School team and volunteers came together to sort, pack, and distribute the materials that will help bring Freedom School to life across our sites this summer. From books and curriculum supplies to classroom essentials, every box packed represents an investment in our scholars' success.
With one week until scholars arrive, the excitement is building! Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who came and made this day possible. ๐

As we close out this week, we can't say enough about how proud we are of our Servant Leader Interns (SLIs). Throughout training, they showed up with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a commitment to learning everything they can to create a meaningful summer for our scholars! ๐
๐A special thank you to Devin Rankin for sharing words of encouragement and wisdom with our SLIs as they begin this journey. Your support reminded them of the importance of leading with purpose, serving with heart, and believing in the power of education.

Meanwhile, our Servant Leader Interns (SLIs) had the opportunity to hear from Vincent DeBetta, Relationship Banker from Regions Bank accompanied with My Brother's Keeper Charlotte-Mecklenburg who shared valuable insights on financial literacy, the importance of saving, and the rewards of hard work. ๐โญThrough this session, SLIs gained practical knowledge and tools that will support both their personal and professional growth as they prepare for the summer ahead.

For nearly 20 years, Covenant Presbyterian Church - Charlotte, NC and Senior Minister Bob Henderson have been valued partners in the work of Freedom School Partners.
As Bob prepares to retire this September, we celebrate his faithful leadership, servant heart, and commitment to building a stronger community for children and families. As our Servant Leader Interns (SLIs) continue preparing for the summer ahead, they spent the day diving deeper into the foundations of a successful Freedom School classroom. Through breakout sessions and hands-on learning, SLIs gained valuable knowledge and skills that will help them create engaging, supportive environments for scholars.
A special thank you to Liz Brock for leading a discussion on classroom management. ๐Biasia Sparks for facilitating an enriching session on our testing system, Rapid Online Assessment of Reading (ROAR), ๐ป and Cecilรฉ Sadler for leading a lesson focused on our Freedom School site, The Grove! ๐
