Unless we act, the first national voucher program will go into effect next year.

Take action at the link in the comments.

The Education Freedom Tax Credit is a private school voucher program, championed by Project 2025 and Besty DeVos, and designed to funnel taxpayer funds into unaccountable K-12 private and religious schools.

These funds should be used to support public schools, not defund them.

Our calls are working! More Illinois congresspeople have co-sponsored the "Keep Public Funds In Public Schools Act of 2026"—the bill that would REPEAL the federal school voucher scheme.

CALL your rep TODAY and ask them to co-sponsor! If they’ve signed on, call to thank them and ask them to urge their colleagues to sign on. Find their number here: www.congress.gov/contact-us

Let’s make sure every Illinois rep has signed on to show broad support for repealing federal school vouchers when the bill is introduced tomorrow! Not in Illinois? No problem…this legislation is a nationwide effort to demand that public funds stay in public schools.

📚Public schools are the heartbeat of our communities. They’re where every single child gets a fair shot at a bright future, where our kids get their first taste of belonging to something bigger. When our public schools are well-funded, our entire community blossoms, and neighborhoods come to life.

❌But right now, that bright future is under threat by a federal private school voucher scheme.

💸At its core, this program acts as a massive tax shelter for the ultra-wealthy. Unlike normal charity, it offers a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit. This allows millionaires to bypass paying their fair share of taxes entirely, redirecting public funds to private tuition while
our neighborhood classrooms and working families foot the bill.

✅The good news is, we have an incredible opportunity to fund our local classrooms! The newly introduced Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act does exactly what it says on the label! This legislation completely dismantles the voucher tax credit, ensuring billions in public tax dollars stay in our neighborhood classrooms instead of funding private tuition. It gives us a massive opportunity to fuel positive change for our schools and our kids.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY:
1. Call your U.S. Senators & Representative: Tell them to sign onto the Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act to repeal the federal voucher tax credit immediately.

2. Call Governor Pritzker: Tell him to protect our local classrooms by rejecting (not opting in) the federal voucher program and fully funding the evidence-based funding formula to transform our public school communities.

Our public schools welcome and serve all kids. They’re worth investing in. Let’s keep public dollars for the public good!

All school vouchers will take money away from public schools. Yesterday in a New York Times article, there was a headline that referenced the federal private school voucher program from President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” The article suggests that some of the voucher money from the federal tax credit voucher program will go towards public schools. This is extremely misleading.

A quick reminder that…
- Public schools cannot directly receive funds from the federal voucher program.
- Over 160 civil rights, disability rights, education, and religious freedom groups are supporting a repeal of this voucher program.
- Taxpayer money will be routed through private organizations that decide which families get funding and how it can be used, leaving the door open for discrimination.

No school voucher will benefit public schools in Illinois. We must continue to urge Illinois state leaders to opt us out of the federal voucher program and instead invest in our public schools.
