Congrats to those that won at the 2026 NEIU Lead Awards, hosted by Student Leadership Development NEIU(SLD)!

Trailblazer Award: Fem Design, with Dakota Watkins, Editor in Chief, also winning the NRichment Award for Outstanding Leadership, with the NEIU Feminist Club.

Excellence in Media Award: Zachariah Simmons, Program Director for WZRD Chicago 88.3 Freeform Radio

Eagle Eye Award: Xander Cardona, Staff Writer for The Independent NEIU

Soaring Eagle Award: The NEIU Student Media Board, for their dedicated service within all the mediums, with Leslie Lozada, EIC of the The Independent NEIU accepting on behalf of Student Media Board.

Dan Maurer, Former news editor for The Independent NEIU was also honored for his two years of work as a peer mentor for NEIU'S First Year Experience, and with the NEIU Alternative Spring Break program, as Student Leader.

Dennis Sagel, Student Media Board Advisor, also presented some of the awards as well.
