Release Piece

I grew up on Washington Island in Wisconsin. Washington Island has a beach called schoolhouse beach that has tumble limestone rocks. It?s known all over the world because there are very few like it. I took a picture while I was up there a couple years ago because I wanted to sit and paint the rocks when I got home as a reminder of my hometown cause I don?t get there nearly often enough. But I honestly had no idea what I was gonna do with them. I got to a black gray and white section and was very bored so then I splattered it and didn?t like that so then I added salt and didn?t like that so then, in an attempt to begin working on creating a consistent body of art I decided that what it needed was hidden images and vibrant colors because those are the things that are in all of my work. So that?s what I began adding and the piece that I posted this image here is still in process. I referred to it is my release piece because I continue to go back to it and refine it and listen to it and spend time with it at the end of stressful days in between technically challenging, art projects of other types and it has become very much like going home. Even though I?m not there and I?m sitting hundreds of miles away at my art table. And so it gives me the release, and reconnection to the incredible complexity of nature, nature and the beauty that is inherent in that complex complexity that I need when life and work and even other art projects become too stressful.

Egyptian Goose family

This watercolor is of an Egyptian Goose and her gosslings. They are among the Duckweed in a South Florida pond. Done in my sketchbook, about 9"x12". These geese are quite common, yet appear so unique compared to the usual Canadian Geese.
