Did you know that LEARN started even before it became a charter 25 years ago?

What began with two classrooms in North Lawndale in 1980 has paved the way for transformational educational opportunities in North Lawndale and beyond. Today, LEARN serves 4,000 students across 11 campuses, but our mission remains the same: providing an exceptional public education and supporting students far beyond graduation.

The recent feature in Better Magazine/Make It Better Foundation highlights what makes our work impactful: dedicated educators who stay and grow with us, alumni who return, and give back, and generations of students who are empowered to reach their goals.

The Illinois State Board of Education has voted to keep LEARN open — ensuring stability and continuity for students and families for years to come.

LEARN 6 and LEARN 10 are proud to be the highest-performing public schools in North Chicago, providing students with safe, joyful, and academically strong learning environments where children thrive.

We are deeply committed to the North Chicago community and excited to continue serving families for many years ahead.

LEARN scholars experienced tremendous success through our continued partnership with Wilmot Ski Resort, where scholars had the opportunity to learn and grow through our Annual Ski Program. This year’s program brought together six campuses with 34 scholars from Learn Romano Butler, Learn Hunter Perkins, Learn Excel, Learn 7, Learn Campbell, and Learn 6 creating a dynamic and engaging experience for all involved. Now in its 4th successful year, the program concluded with a celebratory awards ceremony recognizing scholar participation, growth, and achievement. Many scholars walked away with strengthened skills and a newfound passion for skiing, making this year’s program another memorable milestone for LEARN.
