Check out our middle school woodworking projects from this year! From handcrafted utensils and an innovative lamp to carefully crafted cutting boards, recreations of vintage marble runs for our Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms, and beautifully designed animal puzzles, each project reflects the creativity, precision, and craftsmanship our students have developed throughout the year.

Every year, our 8th grade students complete a capstone project that serves as the culmination of their time at The Field School. Through regular meetings with faculty thesis advisors, students are challenged to think deeply, refine their ideas, and strengthen their writing as they develop thesis papers centered on themes of their own choosing.

Drawing connections across the great books they’ve studied throughout their years at TFS, they create thoughtful arguments that reflect both intellectual growth and personal reflection.

As part of this culminating experience, students also publicly defend their theses before faculty and family members — an opportunity to share their work, articulate their ideas, and celebrate all they have accomplished during their years at TFS.

This year’s thesis themes include:

“Understanding, Seeking, and Sitting in God’s Love”
“Courage in the Face of Fear”
“Our Identity Crisis”
“The Mindset Behind Imagination”
“Peace in the Floods of Life”

TFS hosted a successful wrestling clinic! Students brought the habits they’ve been building in the classroom to the wrestling mat, where attention and fortitude were on full display. From patiently learning new skills to practicing shots and refining technique, our students embraced the challenge. It was exciting to watch them grow in confidence as they learned that perseverance and discipline lead to progress—both on the mat and beyond.

Last month, we celebrated the creativity and hard work of our students at the Spring Art & Music Fair! The evening featured musical performances by our 3rd–5th grade students and middle school choir majors, alongside an art showcase from our 3rd–5th grade students and middle school art majors. From beautiful music to detailed artwork, it was a joyful celebration of the gifts and creativity our students are cultivating! Thank you to our dedicated teachers who made this special night possible.

Congratulations to our middle school students on two extraordinary performances of Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare! It was an evening of wit, wonder, and wisdom brought to life through the students’ hard work and creativity—from mastering lines and blocking scenes to building sets and props and lighting the stage. Along the way, students explored themes of love, wisdom found in unexpected places, and the freedom and security that come from bearing the truth.

Special thanks to our dedicated community of staff, parent volunteers, and friends of the school who generously gave their time, talents, and resources to make these productions possible.

“If music be the food of love, play on…”

We were delighted to welcome our grandparents and special friends last Friday for a meaningful morning together. Highlights of the day included student recitations of Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death! by Patrick Henry, excerpts from What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July? by Frederick Douglass, performances from Macbeth by Shakespeare, nature sketching, entries in the Book of Centuries, and studying poetry by George Herbert together.

Most of all, it was a joy to see generations gathered in fellowship—sharing in the work of learning and lifting up our students, teachers, and staff in prayer for continued growth in wisdom, wonder, and the knowledge of the Lord.

As part of their study of medieval history, 4th grade students design and build detailed castle models. Their creations feature elements such as towers, drawbridges, portcullises, battlements, moats, stables, and chapels—highlighting the structures essential to daily life within a castle. The pinnacle of the project is hosting other grades as they present their masterpieces.

Last week, 8th grade students took their capstone trip to Washington DC. The trip brought many of their studies of culture and history to life while deepening friendships with classmates. Highlights of the trip included standing before the Lincoln Memorial, experiencing the story of scripture at the Museum of the Bible, connecting curriculum to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and National Museum of African American History and Culture, visiting war memorials, hiking Great Falls Park, sitting at Ford's Theater, and encountering firsthand the works of artists like Monet, Giotto, Richard Norris Brooke, and Van Gogh.
