🐦 Meet Colley and Ginsburg, UIC's newest peregrine falcon chicks!

Did you know that peregrine falcons call University Hall's 28th floor home? The male and female chicks are the latest generation of raptors that have nested on University Hall for several decades, named in honor of retiring Provost Karen Colley and Michael Ginsburg, who served as special advisor to Chancellor Miranda for student affairs.

Hosted by the UIC Gender and Sexuality Center and the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ People, UIC Flames came together last week in community to celebrate Pride Month at the annual Pride Month Picnic.

Jaqueza Thomas is already a leader in Chicago, and he hasn't even graduated yet. His motivation? “To be that validation to other young people...You can do absolutely anything you want in this world.”

Thomas is the founder of Chicago Emerging Stars, a youth‑centered nonprofit focused on mentorship, workforce development and expanding options for young people across the city. The UIC College of Liberal Arts and Sciences student has even been recognized by the Chicago Mayor's Office, My Brother's Keeper Alliance and former President Barack Obama.
