Getting the future ‘quantum-ready’ ⚛️
Seven City Colleges of Chicago students and recent alumni spent the spring studying quantum engineering through a pilot partnership between Quantum Machines, UChicago PME, and Chicago Quantum Exchange.
The series of weekend workshops was designed to prepare tomorrow’s STEM professionals for a field that’s going to change everything.

Charging the Future 🔋💡 At this year’s Harper Lecture hosted by UChicago Alumni, UChicago PME faculty Shirley Meng and Chibueze Amanchukwu shared how breakthroughs in battery science and engineering are helping shape the future of energy storage.
Prof. Shirley Meng discussed advances in safer, next-generation batteries, including sodium-ion and solid-state technologies.
Asst. Prof. Chibueze Amanchukwu highlighted how AI is accelerating the discovery of new battery materials, helping researchers move from ideas to innovation faster than ever before.

UChicago PME Dean Nadya Mason has been named The University of Chicago’s vice president for research, effective July 1. In this role, Mason will serve as UChicago’s chief research officer, leading the University’s research partnership activity and the full range of critical support functions that enable faculty scholarship across campus and beyond.
“Research is how universities transform ideas into knowledge and knowledge into impact, and stepping into this role means I have the honor of supporting that mission across the entire University,” Mason said. “Serving as dean of UChicago Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering has been a great privilege, and I look forward to partnering with scholars across campus to continue to build upon UChicago’s eminent research enterprise.”
An interim Dean for UChicago PME will be announced in the coming weeks.
