⚽ ⚽ ⚽ Varsity girls soccer cleaned up in awards season, with our three team captains earning All-Sectional and/or All-Conference recognition after leading the Warriors to a regional victory in the state playoffs.
Chloe earned All-Area honors from the Daily Southtown as well — a fitting capstone to a career that saw the senior keeper amass a staggering 470 saves across four years as a starter, by far the most in school history and close to the few dozen goalies in state history who reached 500.

Their coach says:
"Chloe graduates as the most decorated and accomplished goalie in program history, twice recognized as All-Sectional, All-Conference, and on the Daily Southtown’s All-Area Team. Her 188 saves this season ranks top 15 in the state and 1st in the city of Chicago. She averaged 11.8 saves per game and a strong .729 save percentage, displaying tremendous athleticism, reflexes, relentlessness, and composure under pressure."
"Lavenia was an elite tone-setter, serving as team captain the past two years and winning the Warrior Award for leadership both years as the heart and soul of our team. Fearless in physical play, she played both in the midfield and later at forward after missing time because of an injury, unlocking a new dimension for our playoff push."
"Zoya was one of the conference’s most productive scorers, tallying 11 goals before suffering a season-ending injury. This is her second All-Conference award, coupled now with All-Sectional honorable mention. She is a fast, powerful, and crafty striker who puts back lines under consistent threat — including a road game in which she scored twice in the closing minutes to erase a two-goal deficit, tying the game on a free kick with a few seconds left."

Our series on the concludes with Janet, who plans to study biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
“There can be no question that Janet is an asset to any community of which she is a member. Not only is she consistently a strong academic performer, but even more importantly her scholastic abilities are backed up by a true emotional intelligence, kindness, and self-awareness. Watching her grow and mature from a quiet, unassuming freshman to a confident, compassionate senior clearly demonstrates the trajectory she is on to becoming the kind of serious adult that the world needs more of.”

Like many schools throughout the world, Morgan Park Academy divides all students, faculty, and staff into five houses. Named for five giants of MPA history, they are Blake House, Malcolm House, Norton House, Theodore House, and Withington House.
The house system provides a framework for intramural, athletic, charity, fundraising, and community competitions. Students win points for participation in all facets of school life, including academic achievement, co-curricular involvement, good deeds, and volunteer work.
At the end of the year, the house with the most points wins the cup. This year’s winner is Theodore House. Congratulations!
Our series on the continues with Varun, our salutatorian, who plans to study biology on a pre-med track at Northwestern University.
“Varun has been at Morgan Park Academy since kindergarten and has grown and matured into an excellent student, leader, and person.
“Having known Varun for the past four years in and out of the classroom, I have come to admire his steady demeanor and calm exterior. Even if he’s in panic mode internally, he’s quietly assessing the situation and coming up with a reasonable course of action.
“He has made the most of his time at MPA. He and his fellow BPA officers provided great leadership in planning, developing, and executing our student-run business, the Coffee Corner, to a great measure of success.
“Varun has a keen mind and a sharp wit. I will miss doing the New York Times news quiz with him and his classmates, but I don’t doubt that he will come up with good answers for whatever lies ahead.”

Our series on the continues with Qadriyah, who is still finalizing her college plans.
“There is always laughter around Qadriyah when she’s with her friends and peers. She is witty, insightful, and cognizant of others, so I can see why younger Upper School students especially look up to her and like her very much.
“I appreciate her ability to advocate for herself when it’s necessary, and I also appreciate her creativity. She has shown me several projects for her audio and video editing class, and she gives her all even though the assignment might require her to do something that she’s not used to, such as acting.
“I think Qadriyah has an exciting future waiting for her next fall, and I hope she has a wonderful undergraduate experience.”
