European Hand-Tied Spiral Bouquet Technique
1. Hold the first flower stem in your dominant hand.
2. Place a second stem at an angle across the first stem. Keep it horizontal, not pointed toward you.
3. Lift your index finger slightly. Set the new stem in place.
4. Lower your index finger. Secure the bottom stems gently with your remaining fingers.
5. Add each new stem in the same direction. Cross each stem at the same angle to form the spiral.
6. When all flowers and foliage are added, tie the bouquet securely at the binding point with twine, raffia, or ribbon.
7. Trim the stems evenly with floral clippers.
8. Place the bouquet in a vase. Round, urn-shaped, or gently flared vases work best because they support the natural shape of the hand-tied bouquet.
Care Instructions
* Fill the vase with fresh water.
* Recut the stems by a few millimeters each day. This helps the flowers absorb water efficiently.
* Change the water regularly.
* Keep the stem ends clean. They can harbor bacteria, which may clog the water-conducting vessels and shorten the life of the flowers. Fresh cuts help keep the stems open and the flowers hydrated.

NATURE INSPIRES IMAGINATION IN WAYS NO SCREEN CAN REPLACE!
I learned to make jewelry and crafts from flowers and grasses as a child. We spent endless days exploring forests, rivers, and nature, never bored for a moment.
Kids naturally love creating with flowers and other natural materials.
Years later, those childhood skills became invaluable when I taught children at summer camps.

What is the difference between European and American floral design?
The European Approach
Our school offers a European approach to education in floral design.
Historically American flower arranging evolved from European traditional floral design.
Besides traditional floral design, contemporary European masters offer visually dazzling concepts.
From that perspective, the American style is quite conservative. So, if somebody looks for visually stunning, stay-above-the-crowd designs, they hire European-trained florists!

Tutorial - Leaf manipulation
Aspidistra leaf is the best for this purpose.
Do not hydrate before manipulation.
Simple technique
Tear off several strips only from the wider part of a leaf.
Start by poking a hole approximately
in the ½ of the length of the leaf, about ½ inch from the edge, using your thumb nail.
Then gently pull to separate a strip from the leaf, moving your thumb up and down along its length.
Repeat until you reach the middle vein of the leaf.
Hydrate the leaves for 2 hours before arranging.
Use the laced leaves in bouquets and arrangements.
