It’s more than a credential change from technologist to scientist; it’s an upgrade to your professional identity, aligning with the latest standards and fostering greater recognition. The ASCP BOC uses computerized adaptive testing (CAT) for the majority of its credential examinations. In CAT, a more difficult question follows a correct answer, and a less difficult question follows an incorrect answer, to tailor the examination to your ability level. Changes are being made to ASCP BOC’s Phlebotomy Technician – PBT(ASCP) route 2. During the Board of Governors (BOG) meeting in November of 2025, the board approved the removal of 100 clinical hours currently necessary for eligibility route 2; all other requirements for route 2 have stayed the same.
