Moore Marine College — Where the Ocean is Your Classroom
With access to research vessels, expert faculty, and 60+ days of fieldwork built into our programs, we don’t just teach marine biology—we live it.
Recently, some of our Moore Marine College students and members of the public joined us in Colombia for our Sea Turtle Conservation Program! 🐢🌊
Participants spent their days working hands on with juvenile loggerhead and hawksbill sea turtles, assisting with feeding, data collection, tagging, and other important aspects of sea turtle rehabilitation and conservation.
The highlight of the trip was release day, when more than 200 rehabilitated sea turtles were returned to the ocean. Watching these animals make their way back into the wild is an unforgettable experience and a powerful reminder of why conservation matters. We are so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s program a success! 🪸

Recently, some of our Moore Marine College students participated in beach cleanups around Tampa Bay! 🌊♻️
Projects like these give our students the opportunity to get hands-on with conservation efforts that directly benefit our local marine ecosystems and coastal wildlife.
As summer approaches and more people head to the beaches, remember to leave only your footprints behind and help us keep our coastlines clean for the animals that call them home. 🐚☀️

We’re so proud of our Moore Marine College students, Aziz Hassanali, Grace Kim, and Luke Tannenbaum, for presenting at the Florida Marine Science Educators Association conference at Florida Atlantic University Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute! 🌊📊
Their poster, “Data-Driven Sampling: The Role of Indicator Species in Shark and Ray Research,” highlighted ongoing research conducted by and the college, using real data collected in the field to share insights on shark and ray conservation.
Opportunities like this allow students to gain valuable experience presenting within the scientific community while building confidence, strengthening communication skills, and making meaningful connections in the field!
Join us on the water this summer! 🌊🦈
At CMERA and Moore Marine College, we believe hands-on education is the most powerful way to learn. Spend your summer days on our research vessels learning how to tag, handle, and safely release local shark and ray species alongside experienced researchers.
Whether you’re a student looking to build real field experience or a local or visitor wanting to get involved in marine conservation, this is an opportunity to learn by doing.
Enrollment for our Summer Research Program closes March 31 and spots are limited. Apply online now before it’s too late! ⛴️

Happy Earth Day from CMERA and Moore Marine College! 🌎🌊
We were honored to welcome WUSF’s Steve Newborn and Daylina Miller out on the water today for a beautiful day of shark and ray research led by CMERA & Moore Marine College President Alan Moore, alongside our college students.
From interviews to demonstrating how we safely tag southern stingrays, our students helped showcase the kind of hands-on field research we’ll be conducting every day this summer and why this work matters.
Thank you to our reporters and students for spending Earth Day advancing marine conservation right here in Tampa Bay!

We had a great time visiting a college fair in Escambia County, Florida and connecting with the next generation of students interested in marine biology!
It was a pleasure sharing more about career paths in the field and the unique opportunities available through an education at Moore Marine College.
We’re always excited to meet future marine scientists and help them take the first step toward their goals. 🌊
