There’s always a mix of emotions when a student spreads their wings and flies from the dePaul nest. While we miss seeing them in our hallways, there is no greater reward than watching them grow, succeed, and make a difference on their next adventure. Even more meaningful is hearing from former students and their parents who take the time to reflect on how their experiences at dePaul helped shape who they are today.
"We missed dePaul so much this year but we wanted to let you know how Xavier did in a mainstream middle school.
We so dreaded putting Xavier in public school for the middle school years. The adolescent years seem to be the most tumultuous time in a child’s life, and we were so hesitant to remove Xavier from his safe and supportive little bubble and thrust him into a huge school filled with unknowns. We were certain he would drown and regress.
Do you know what actually happened? He thrived.
In meetings with his teachers and IEP team, we consistently heard how tenacious and confident he is. We also heard about how strong his self-advocacy skills and discipline are.
We KNOW that came from dePaul. The extra emphasis you place on executive function coaching and the supportive environment you foster shows these kids that they are limitless.
Xavier ended up with 4’s on his ELA and Math FAST tests, Principal’s Honor Roll for straight A’s, and 6th grade Student of the Year.
Thank you so much for all you guys do for these kids. You’re doing great work that extends beyond your walls."
