๐ฆฝImagine if your car required significant repairs every six months just to remain functional. For most wheelchair users, that is the average interval between part failures. These issues range from worn brakes and punctured tires to complex electrical malfunctions, often resulting in injury, hospitalization or leaving users stranded and unable to reach work or medical appointments.
Muyun Zhao, a PhD student at the Ohio State Rehabilitation Engineering Design (RED) Laboratory is working to change this. In collaboration with the National Health Service West of Scotland Mobility and Rehabilitation Centre, Zhao is developing measures for wheelchair reliability performance.๐กโ๏ธ https://car.osu.edu/news/2026/06/wheelchair-reliability

๐Huge congratulations to Research Engineer Nur Uddin Javed and Assistant Professor Qadeer Ahmed for receiving the prestigious Accelerator Award! This award, funded by Ohio State and the Ohio Third Frontier, is a major milestone designed to turn cutting-edge technology into successful Ohio-based startups.
The grant will help fuel the development of XNAV, a breakthrough software that solves a major safety hurdle: driving when GPS is degraded or completely unavailable. By using sensors already built into production vehicles and standard lightweight 2D maps, XNAV provides precise, lane-level positioning to keep both everyday drivers and autonomous systems safe in "GPS-denied" scenarios. ๐๐จ

๐๐During the BattChallenge, the BattChallenge Ohio State team received a VIP visit from Stellantis CEO, Antonio Filosa and SVP of Propulsion Systems, Micky Bly.
Filosa and Bly were truly impressed by the Buckeyes professionalism and enthusiasm. According to the Stellantis leadership, โTheir outstanding performance made a memorable impression, highlighting not only the talent and dedication of everyone involved but also OSUโs longstanding reputation for cultivating the next generation of engineersโthanks in large part to the support from OSUโs Center for Automotive Research.โ
The team was delighted to hear that one highlight that truly set them apart was being the only group to successfully integrate their own team-developed battery into the Ram Promaster vehicle and get those wheels spinning! This achievement is a testament to the hard work and collaborative spirit that has brought the team to this exciting milestone.
