We're into summer now, but still fondly remembering our last field trip of last year to Inniswood Metro Gardens. 🌷Thank you to Friends of Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks for covering the cost of the bus, which is always a highlight of any trip! 🚌
We're Going to a Garden — Red Oak Community School
There was no playground. I heard the disappointed, “Oh,” in the student’s voice who had posed the question. The Metro Parks Educator, Jen explained that this was technically a “Garden” that they were visiting, and that workers and many volunteers spend hours and hours planting, maintain, a...

Inclusive Math — Red Oak Community School

Our entire community has been hard at work outside the past two weeks! This is the year our play area is beginning it's glow up! ✨
Thanks to the Community Beyond Backyards grant from Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District, as well as some plants from their tree sale, we’ve been able to begin the long-term project of rescuing our space from invasive species and creating protected spaces to allow native plants to flourish!
Thanks also to Green Columbus who provided soil, mulch and compost the kids used to give our new plants a head start!
Next, we'll purchase some larger native plants, then give all our new plants extra attention and care for the first three growing seasons to ensure they grow strong, alongside our students.
🌳 Earth Day lasts a long time at Red Oak!

There’s no big institution or endowment funding our work. Every scholarship at Red Oak is made possible by individuals: families, educators, and supporters who believe in access, belonging, and community.
This is what grassroots education looks like. 💪 If you’d like to be part of it, you can give directly to our scholarship fund here: https://columbusfdn.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=5160 Thank you so much for considering.
