November 12th- Caldwell Exempted Village school board meeting
Arriving a little early for the board meeting, I had the opportunity to watch the rehearsal of the school play, "Salem's Daughter." I always value talking wth students and staff. The board meeting room was filled to capacity that night. Fifty-six students from grades K-8, who achieved over 90% on their MAP scores, were recognized by the school and school board. It was a wonderful moment for the students, families, and staff. I appreciate the opportunity to speak and express my gratitude to the school board members for their dedication to governance and commitment to their students and community. Go Redskins!

November 11th- Symmes Valley
As I traveled to Willow Wood, I noticed increasing ice accumulation the closer I got. I remained cautious to ensure a safe arrival at the school for my Symmes Valley tour. Today marked my first experience with a snow day or ice-related school closure. Despite the closure, I had a productive meeting with Superintendent Bowman and High School Principal Zacc Russell. We toured the school, and although the classrooms were empty of its 700+ students, we encountered staff busy cleaning and preparing a new class area for the Esports League. The team recently won their first competition, earning $1,500 among four players. They remain in the football tournaments, and we wish them success on November 14th in Division 7. I look forward to returning in the spring to visit with the students. and tonight Go Vikings!!

November 10- Mohawk Local
Despite the first snowfall of the season, my visit to Mohawk Nation was warmly welcomed by Board member Dr. Lori Arnold and three student leaders who guided the tour around the school. I was impressed by their communication skills and look forward to seeing them again at the 2025 OSBA Capital Conference Student Achievement Fair.
As we walked through the hallways, the Warrior branding was prominently displayed both within the school and throughout the community. The tour was highlighted by wonderful interactions with students and staff.
One noteworthy aspect was the identification of rooms with allergy lists in the elementary areas, acknowledging the increased risk of allergy emergencies among younger children.
Thank you for a wonderful day with your students, staff, and administration. Go Warriors! Mohawk Local School

November 7th-Marion City Schools
Tour of Marion City Schools
Continuing tours today I visited Marion City schools, Tara Dyer, a Marion City and Tri-Rivers school board member, accompanied me to Harding High School. Named after Warren Harding, the 29th President of the United States who spent his youth in Marion, the school’s entrance felt presidential with its high ceilings and flag-adorned hallways. The corridors featured memorabilia of President Harding and other treasures.
After meeting with the administration, we visited their memorabilia room, rich with books, journals, newspapers, and photographs dating back to the school's founding in 1893. It was a journey back in time, filled with staff eager to share their history and artifacts. Assistant Principal Bebout highlighted items of interest, and as we moved through the classrooms, students exemplified the school's pillars of excellence:
Academic Achievement: Cultivating a culture of high expectations and rigorous learning.
Character Development: Fostering integrity, respect, and responsibility.
Community Engagement: Building strong partnerships with families and local organizations.
Innovative Practices: Embracing creative teaching methods and technology integration.
Supportive Environment: Ensuring a safe and inclusive atmosphere for all students.
Lifelong Learning: Encouraging continuous improvement and curiosity.
In the Choir room, students celebrated Mrs. Bebout's birthday with singing Happy Birthday, followed by a lively discussion on education, culminating with a performance of "Photograph" by Ed Sheeran. What an amaizzing job from memory!! In another classroom, students were focused on building shelves as part of their project, demonstrating their understanding of machinery.
The tour culminated in the STEM class, which participates in VEX IQ competitions. The class featured lab books akin to science notebooks, detailing their coding and robotic innovations. These books documented successes, failures, and growth. A display case proudly showcased awards won at state and other competitions. The school, known for hosting state competitions, was bustling with students preparing for an upcoming meet.
As we departed Harding and headed to Grant Middle School, I just realized I was so captivated by the students and their accomplishments that I forgot to take pictures. Visiting Marion City schools was an incredible experience. Thank you for the amazing tour, and GO Presidents!

November 6th-Tri-River Career Center
As I entered the career center, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and visitors. I toured the school with Tara Dyer, a board member, and Dr. Dan Kaffenbarger, the Interim Superintendent. They were hosting a Veterans Day of Service, offering free services across various career departments for veterans and servicemen and women. A man brought his dog to the grooming department, while in cosmetology, a daughter gave her father a manicure. There were also haircuts, styles, oil changes, and more. Students took professional photos for veterans. The students were energetic, showing respect, knowledge, and a strong desire to thank these veterans.
Construction students demolish unlivable houses each year and build affordable homes for the community. Welding students exhibited everyday items created through welding, highlighting the fact that there is a shortage of over half a million welders in the United States.
A special mention to the University of Akron, my alma mater, which offers associate degree classes. The motto "Respect to be Amazing" was seen throughout the school, and I was truly amazed by the students' energy, knowledge, and willingness to give back. Thank you for a wonderful tour and service day for our veterans!
