Why do school levies exist?

That's a question many community members ask, and it's one explored in this conversation between OSBA President Mary Cleveland and community advocate Tracey Artis.

Artis discusses how school funding supports educational opportunities and contributes to the economic health of local communities.

School boards have a tough job, and taking time to step back and talk about how to do that work well matters.

Today, OSBA’s Kristi Robbins worked with Dayton Public Schools during a board retreat focused on strengthening teamwork, communication and board leadership.

Good conversations lead to good ideas.

Last night, urban district leaders from across Ohio came together to talk through challenges, share what's working in their communities and learn from one another. That's the value of the Urban Network: Bringing people together to exchange ideas and find solutions that benefit students.

Thanks to everyone who joined us.

When the final bell rings for summer, Ohio's public schools keep showing up for students.

Across the state, school districts partner with community organizations to provide free summer meals so children continue to have access to nutritious food when school isn't in session. Programs like the one highlighted in Hancock County help ensure students are fed, supported and connected throughout the summer months.

Public schools do more than educate. They serve as hubs for their communities all year long.

📚 During the school year.
☀️ During the summer.
❤️ Every day in between.

Thank you, Athens City School District!

Last night, community members came together to talk about the issues affecting Ohio's public schools, including school funding, property taxes and student mental health.

We heard concerns, ideas and personal experiences from people who care deeply about their local schools and the students they serve.

Forward Together is just getting started. We'll be bringing these conversations to other OSBA regions throughout the year, and we look forward to hearing from more communities across Ohio.
