The Philippines – Part V – The Resort

Welcome to Puerta Galera! Shake off those sea legs and enjoy the beauty of the Atlantis Dive Resort. Lush landscape surrounds your hillside room overlooking the ocean. You’ll enjoy spa treatments, fine dining, and 50 Bar, the beachfront bar.

The spacious dive shop has plenty of room for you to store your gear, along with a gigantic camera room. The dive sites are very close—5 to 10 minutes away in a zodiac. You can make up to 5 dives/day, conditions permitting. Of course, you can always skip a dive for a massage or treatment in the spa.

You’ll continue to see the amazing diversity of marine life that defines the Philippines. Nudibranchs, lionfish (where they belong), eels, giant clams, seahorses, frogfish.

You’ll spend 5 nights at the resort. Optional land tours are available to help you off-gas before your flights home.

The Philippines – Part IV – Barracuda Lake

Not your run-of-the-mill lake! Barracuda Lake is in a volcanic crater and has a layer of fresh water sitting on top of saltwater. The saltwater is warmed by geothermal vents, making it toasty warm. The underwater rock formations are other-worldly. Even though it is a lake, there are resident barracuda.

The Philippines Part III - The Wrecks ⛴ ⛴ ⛴

The Coron Wrecks are Japanese ships sunk by the U.S. in 1944 during WWII. The wrecks rest in shallow, calm, protected bays and channels where the Japanese thought they were hidden from the U.S. Navy. Recreational divers—beginners to wreck-trained--can dive them. Two popular wrecks are:

⛴ The East Tangat Gunboat (Tamakaze) is in 10 –60 ft of water. It’s compact, intact, and perfect for long, relaxed dives.

⛴ The Okikawa Maru tanker is the largest and most dramatic wreck in Coron Bay. The decks are shallow and covered in life.

The Philippines Adventure Part II - Dugongs

After exploring Apo Reef from the Adventurer liveaboard, you’ll enjoy spending the next day diving with dugongs.

Dugongs and manatees are closely related and look a lot alike. The dugong has a fluked tail, like a whale tale. The manatee’s tail is paddle-shaped. Dugongs live only in saltwater, while manatees are found in fresh and salt water.

The Adventurer features a spacious dive deck with plenty of room for cameras and your dive gear. You’ll take a zodiac to most dive sites, where you’ll back roll right onto the site. After a thorough dive briefing, your dive guide will safely lead your dive. You’ll typically have the option to make 4 dives a day, conditions permitting.

Apo Reef is the 2nd largest marine park in the Philippines. This beautiful reef is covered in coral. Previous Easy Divers have seen juvenile Sweetlips, pregnant pufferfish, and nudibranch eggs--in addition to the regular turtles, sea stars, and colorful crinoids.
