Dr. Charlotte Naugle was the district governor of the year when I joined Toastmasters.
She came to the club charter party. Big boss coming! I was the host and a one-month-member-turned-into-club-president. My filler words more than the real words. Nervous to death.
Her loud laughter put my nerves at ease. Cracking jokes, teasing around. This woman has a gift of turning any event, big or small, into an afterwork party.
She built the starting point of my Toastmasters journey. Can't imagine what it'd look like now if it were a governor with a Governor's face that day.
Now she is moving out of the state. Farewell, D12 legend. We will carry your legacy forward.

D12 TLI 2026 — The Last One, The Best One 🔥🙌
Saturday Jun 06, District 12 had its last TLI training. After June, it will become District 203.
Turns out, it's the best TLI training we've ever attended.
It brought TLI to its essence.
For years, TLI worked the same way. Officers split into separate rooms — presidents to 301, VPEs to 405.......The only time all seven sat together was the mock officer meeting at the top. Then everyone scrambled to their assigned rooms. During COVID, it was Zoom breakout rooms. Same idea, different screen.
And once you got there? Same PowerPoint slides. Same "Roles and Responsibilities." Same "Additional Resources" at the bottom. You signed your name at the registration table to earn the DCP points. You went home with what you already knew.
Your problems? Mostly unanswered. No time for them.
D12 has no shortage of members holding officer roles in multiple clubs. When all the trainings run at the same time, you're forced to pick. Go to the President session and miss the VPE. Serve both clubs, train in neither.
This year, Co-Chairs Dominique Fruchtman and Cora Gaane flipped the script.
All seven officer roles. One room. One session. And — no slides.
Instead, seven trainers came up front one after another and just... talked. Their real experiences. Their honest take on the job. Then the floor opened up. Anyone could ask anything. A president's question got answered by a secretary. A VPPR tip turned out to be gold for a treasurer. Problems got solved not just by the trainers — but by the person sitting two seats away.
That's the thing about club officer work: none of it is a solo act. A single officer can't carry the club alone. So why were we training like each role existed in isolation?
Questions that didn't get answered in the room? People exchanged cards. They'll figure it out together, after the meeting. No more titles. They are truth-seekers.
Exactly what TLI is supposed to be. Solve problems. Or GSD (get sh~t done.)
Small change. Bold call. Great result. Thank you Dominique and Cora! 👏
