I waited until tonight to post this since I wanted to meet with my students who come on Monday.

The father of two of our students was killed on Saturday in a terribly tragic event. Louis Erebia was bringing his daughters Addison and Brooklyn to lessons on Mondays and had been coming for the last three weeks.

You may have seen this on the news and all over Facebook. Louis's son Logan was carjacked on Saturday afternoon around 2 p.m. His truck was stolen by a 13-time felon London Hogan. Hogan put a gun to Logan's head at a gas station in East Harris County and Logan did the right thing by turning the keys over. It probably saved his life. After the thief left the gas station, Logan called his parents and 9-1-1 to let them know what had happened. Several months ago, the truck had been stolen and recovered. Louis, Logan's dad, put a tracker in the vehicle so that they could find it if it was ever stolen again.

They saw online where the truck was located in the Airline and 610 area. Logan's father drove to where they thought the truck might be. He found the truck, along with one of Logan's friends. Louis and the felon ended up crashing head-on under an overpass. The thief and his girlfriend exited the vehicle and ran. Logan's friend chased after him. That's when the felon pulled out a gun and began firing. He hit Logan's friend in the back and the leg causing him to hit the ground. Louis exited his vehicle, unarmed, and saw Logan's friend was under fire and he ran to protect him by laying on top of him to keep him from taking any additional fire. Louis, in the process, was shot and gravely injured. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Apparently during the chase, Hogan had called for some help, and he ran to an awaiting vehicle to escape the scene. Logan's friend has been released from the hospital and credits Louis for saving his life.

Louis is a hero and, of course, his family is devastated. I'm sure you will see all of this and much more on the local news and all over Facebook. Louis was not chasing the thief as has been said in the presumptive news media, he was running to protect Logan's friend.

I shared the news with the Monday students who met Louis and his two daughters, Brooklyn and Addison, and they were heart-broken as we all are. We will be sending a nice flower arrangement for the funeral from the Taylor Music Academy. If you would like to contribute to the cost, please do so at your lesson or on PayPal. Also, I will get a card for everyone to sign at your lesson as well.

Since they are new, I know many of you don't know them personally, but they are in our music family. Please keep them in your prayers and ask for prayers for them on your social media and at your own churches.

One of the last memories I have of Louis was at last Monday's lesson. The girls had finished their lesson and we walked out of the studio into the Parish Hall where Louis was seated at one of the tables. His Bible was opened and he was reading it, underlining some scriptures and writing in the margin of his Bible. God help us all to be so committed.

I love that in our studio, a LOT of our dads are accompanying their sons and daughters to music lessons. It is so inspiring to see you so involved in their lives. Hug your children tight tonight and give thanks to God for them. I also give thanks to the moms and dads who are so committed to their children's education.

If you don't already attend a church, I invite you to come and visit ours every Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m. Teaching your children about God is very important!

Learning a new piece?
GOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOW!
Really, really, really slow. Get the right fingerings, get the right rhythm, get the right key going slow and then you have only one thing left to do after you've learned those key items: speed it up. Slowly. Use a metronome and once you've accomplished the first speed, say 40 bpm, then increase it by 4 bpm to 44 bpm and again and again until you reach the correct tempo.
