Christina Jenkins (1920–2003) was a pioneering African-American inventor and entrepreneur best known for revolutionizing the hair industry by inventing the modern "hair weave" technique. While working for a wig manufacturer in 1949, she began developing a more secure alternative to standard wigs and chemical attachments. In 1951, she filed a patent for her "HairWeev" method, which involved sewing commercial hair extensions onto a base of natural hair using a specialized frame and sewing machine. Jenkins traveled internationally to teach her methods and owned the Christina's HairWeev Penthouse Salon in Cleveland, Ohio, which she operated until 1993, leaving a lasting legacy on modern cosmetology.
