This year, Lumin students made a new friend named Buddy. Buddy is a horse.
Horses are unusually good at this work because they mirror what they sense. When a child is anxious, Buddy grows restless too. When the child finds steadiness, so does Buddy. For kids carrying stress or trauma, that feedback loop teaches something no worksheet can: that their inner world affects the world around them, and that they have the power to change it.
Equine therapy is one piece of Lumin's mental health programming, which also includes play therapy, in-home family coaching, and counseling for staff. It costs $208,000 a year to run, and we're raising toward that goal this spring.
If this kind of work matters to you, we'd love your support. You can give at lumineducation.org/donate

Today, one of our classes at Lindsley Park Community School experienced a great moment as they released butterflies and ladybugs they had been caring for in the classroom.
Through this hands-on experience, students learned about life cycles, responsibility, patience, and the importance of caring for living things.

This week, Alannah A. Navarro, a graduating senior from Lakeview Centennial High School, stopped by Lumin Education to visit her former teachers and say thank you.
Pictured here with Ms. Maricella, who was the teacher assistant in Alannah’s toddler classroom at Lumin East Dallas Community School, this sweet reunion is a reminder of the lasting impact educators have on their students long after they leave the classroom.

Lumin Lindsley Park Community School students recently visited the Tenison Park Pollinator Garden, where children connected classroom lessons to the natural world—discovering how plants grow, how ecosystems work, and why caring for our environment matters. Thank you to the volunteers of the Tenison Park Pollinator Garden.
