Professor of Biomedical Engineering Aijun Wang is co-leading a $4M National Institutes of Health grant to develop a bioengineered graft for children with neuropathic bladder.
By replacing traditional intestinal tissue with engineered biomaterials designed to support blood vessel growth, this work aims to reduce complications and improve long-term outcomes, advancing how engineers and clinicians approach complex pediatric care.
Wang is collaborating with Dr. Eric Kurzrock, a pediatric urologic surgeon at UC Davis Health who has been developing and testing grafts to avoid the complications after standard enterocystoplasty for more than two decades.

Tomorrow, biological systems engineering major Atmaja Patil will take the stage as the student speaker at commencement. 🎓
Patil credits her UC Davis experience with building the confidence to question the status quo and ask better questions. Through the College of Engineering’s Student Startup Center, Patil helped more than 50 student teams launch and grow their ideas, while also building ventures of her own!
We can't wait to hear her talk on Saturday, June 13, at 2:30 p.m. Watch the live stream: https://ow.ly/X07450Zbirk
