The historic graduate Class of 2026 includes students completing their Master of Science in Medical Science program, many on their way to becoming doctors (MDs and DOs).

Through linkage programs with MD-granting institutions, as well as partnerships with osteopathic medicine schools like the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), Agnes Scott students are building strong paths into medicine.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 students who received early acceptance into NYITCOM and PCOM!

It's been a month since Agnes Scott College celebrated a landmark milestone at the 2026 Graduate Commencement on May 16th — the largest graduate class in the College's history.

Among the nearly 100 students who crossed the stage, 73 earned their Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, ready to address one of today's most urgent needs: accessible, quality mental health care. One Decatur-based site hired three Agnes Scott interns as full-time counselors upon graduation and has committed to partnering exclusively with Agnes Scott’s program going forward. That kind of endorsement speaks volumes.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 — the counseling field is stronger because you're in it!

Dr. Regina Finan, Assistant Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, shares what aspiring clinicians should consider to become more holistic professionals.

“Clinical interventions using evidence-based practices are necessary to support mental health wellbeing by addressing symptoms that result in distress and/or impairment,” she says. “However, when we take a holistic approach, we extend beyond managing symptoms; we consider the comprehensive well-being of individuals.

Grounding to the earth is a holistic intervention that can promote feeling more 'grounded' and calm, more connected to nature, and can result in feeling less stressed. You can do this simply by standing barefoot on the grass. Mindfully appreciating the beauty of plants in nature is another holistic approach to wellbeing. Some people can do this through gardening or just by taking time to enjoy nature.”

Agnes Scott’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling faculty are committed to guiding students to people through a holistic lens.

Our graduate students are taking their talents nationally! Faculty and students in our Medical Sciences and Post-Bacc programs attended the Association of Southeastern Biologists (ASB) Annual Conference in Mobile, Alabama.

Ximena Guillen ’18, MS’26 presented her poster on “Antisense Oligonucleotides for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: Insights from a Graduate-Level Systematic Review.”

“Presenting my research at the ASB conference was a phenomenal milestone,” she says. “Thanks to my instructor and primary investigator, Dr. (Thalita) Abrahao’s exceptional preparation, I felt confident sharing our findings with the fellow student scientists I met. I thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in the wide range of oral and poster presentations, which covered fields from ecology to molecular biology.”
