"I had a hard time to make connections because everyone here seems individualistic. People seems busy with assignments, works, and personal life. At first, I am worried to not able to make friends or fit into a new environment. Sometimes I feel disconnected because social connections here are different from what I used to be in my home country. However, I learned that people have to balance many responsibilities at once and any relationships usually take more time and effort to build.

During the time I studied here, I have found that everyone is very supportive, including classmates, professors, advisors and staffs, which helps me adapt to new environment comfortably.

I realized I wanted to study Mathematics because I enjoy challenges and problem-solving. There are many concepts that I had never learned before, including Discrete Mathematics, Abstract Algebra, and Calculus IV. Learning these subjects pushed me to think more logically and critically, which made me even more interested in the field.

My recently accomplishment is to receive the second scholarship from Mathematics Department. I am very grateful because it recognized my hard work. Also, I have work as a senior proctor at Testing Center, I really enjoyed the experience because it helped me become more responsible and confident with my work.

My favorite place in Denton is always Denton Square."

Congratulations to Kimi King, winner of the Fulbright Specialist Program to Colombia (2026)!

“The Fulbright specialist award is important to continue to connect the work that UNT does on conflict and human security to applied practical field experience. This is not just abstract, theoretical perspectives, it is looking at democratic governance and how to ensure that institutions do not “backslide” when it comes to democracy and the rule of law. This is especially important in countries that may experience a “fragile peace“ after extended periods of civil war.” - - Kimi

"Coming from Nepal, where streets are alive with pedestrians, local markets, and an organic sense of community, I was caught off guard by the car-centric culture of America. I remember looking outside and wondering, Where is everybody? Back home, community happens on the sidewalk — here, I had to be much more intentional about building connections. Rather than pull back, I embraced the shift and even picked up a love for cars along the way.

My favorite experiences through International Affairs have been the Social Hours and the parade. These events always remind me why this experience is so special — they create a space to connect, celebrate different cultures, and feel genuinely at home even when you are far from it."

Advice:
"Don't be scared to come to UNT — you are not alone here. The international office provides incredible support for everything you need, from timely reminder emails to guidance every step of the way. Lean on your professors because they genuinely want to see you succeed, take advantage of the vibrant campus life, and most importantly — have fun with it. This journey is what you make it."

Congratulations to Wesley Edwards, winner of the Fulbright Scholar Program to Spain (2026-2027)!

"With my Fulbright award, my goal is to develop an international and comparative understanding of teacher workforce challenges. I see the opportunity to examine this problem outside of the Texas and U.S. context as a way to gain fresh perspectives on leadership and policy solutions to bring back home. An equally important dimension of this work will be the partnership I build between UNT and the University of Granada, which I hope will lead to future research and teaching exchanges and broader collaborative opportunities." - Wesley
