Contrast and movement make a big difference in visual perceptual skills. Because the Sonflower Ranch had white peacocks, our children with CVI and low vision were able to locate them when we visited.
We had such an exciting day at the Sonflower Ranch. The sounds and movement of so many animals made it very engaging and interesting. From loud cow mooing, to goat and peacock screams; we heard an earful for sure. This is part of developing our sensory efficiency skills that not only address visual processing but also auditory location and identification. Go Eliana, you are rocking your navigation skills through ALL of your senses!!!

We are excited to attend the Sonflower Ranch Spring Shindig tomorrow with several of our students. They boast of having over 200 petting zoo animals available and a wide variety of activities. We will be exploring with all of our senses and using this as an opportunity for orientation and mobility practice. Whoot whoot.

Happy Teacher Appreciation week. Cheers to those that wear many hats but play one crucial role; your child's teacher.
Accurate. 💯

Ellis has all the smiles every time I visit. We've been doing fun cooking sessions lately that support our sensory efficiency goals. She smells, taste and is part of the process of cutting and spreading using "tools" to make things happen. She is smart, capable and participates throughout all of our lessons. Whoot. Whoot.

Dr. Cathy Smyth, who is contracting with our services, is one of the co-host and creators of this podcast. She has a wonderful wealth of knowledge and lends incredible support to children and families in our population. She often presents at national conferences, teaches at two Universities and is seeing some of our kiddos via telehealth. I highly recommend checking into this podcast.

In the episode, Jenny interviews Rachel Will and Meggan Heady, two experienced public school teachers who once taught her daughter. The conversation is about how educational experiences are strengthened through collaboration between families, general education teachers, and teachers of the visually impaired or other specialties.
