Next up in our “What’s up with...?” series as we explain the many facets of Waldorf education - today, we’re breaking down why we don’t rely on traditional letter grades to communicate about a student’s performance in elementary and middle school.
As an education with a focus on holistic development, we understand that a grade-centered approach can define students too narrowly. At The Denver Waldorf School, teachers are attuned to each and every student’s neuro and physical development, across multiple environments, on a daily basis. Through biannual holistic narrative reports and conferences, our teachers provide a rich, complete picture of their child’s growth - all the while encouraging students to focus on the learning process, not just earning a grade.
With the increasing performance-based anxiety and pressure experienced by this next generation, we emphasize the benefit of developing intrinsic motivation and a lifelong love of learning.

Welcome to our new series, “What’s up with...?”, as we explain the many facets of Waldorf education! First up - we’re breaking down why you won’t find technology in our Waldorf elementary classrooms.
With the growing amount of studies raising alarm for the amount of screen time for children (as well as the recent advisory released from the surgeon general), many schools are finally making changes to meet the concern from parents.
But - keeping iPads, Chromebooks, and personal devices out of our elementary classrooms has always been a mainstay of Waldorf education. Swipe through to learn more about our approach to technology in our K-12 school.

The last two weeks of school took our juniors all over the city as they experienced firsthand what it is like to work in horticulture, veterinary medicine, marketing, education, music composition, firefighting, accounting, and more! Each year, our 11th graders have the opportunity to participate in a practicum experience during the afternoons for two weeks in an area of career interest for each of them. We are so grateful to the many hosts for guiding our students and giving them a glimpse into your worlds as they consider their interests and pathways for the future. Your mentorship and time are invaluable.
