Meet Camila M., a DSST: Cole rising senior who has been a Dragon for two years. 💚

Camila has opened up about the way Cole athletics has shaped her journey navigating a new life in the US and says it’s much more than just sports- it’s about courage, resilience, and growth. She has been part of the soccer, basketball, cheerleading and volleyball sports programs during her time at Cole. Through athletics provided at Cole, Camila has been able to build strength and character.

“Through every victory and defeat, my teammates and I continue to push one another forward, learning how to overcome obstacles together and never give up." Athletics play an important role in a STEM-focused environment because students are able to strengthen both the mind and body, learning discipline, problem-solving, teamwork, and habits that will prepare them for success in the future.

Camila says that for many students that come from different countries and cultures, sports at Cole have created a sense of belonging and community. "Being part of a team helps break language barriers, build confidence, and create friendships that feel like family.”

At DSST: Cole, athletics are more than a game — they are a reflection of our values through courage, resilience, teamwork, and community. 💚🐉

Yesterday our seniors came back together to laugh, hang out, take pictures, and soak in some of their final memories here before walking the stage on Sunday. It’s been so special watching this group grow over the years!
