Dr. Courtney owns Schwartz Chiropractic in Spencer, Iowa, and enjoys living and working in a small town. She is a volunteer with Spencer Main Street. She feels that a thriving downtown is vital to every community because it is a lived-in, loved, and regularly used center where people go not just because they have to, but because they want to. “It visibly reflects the health, identity, and future of the community as a whole.”

She serves in many capacities helping with various events that Spencer Mainstreet provides for her community. They are even working on a golf tournament that will raise funds for micro grants available to local businesses in Spencer’s downtown district. This grant program helped many businesses that were devastated by the flood in June 2024.

When she’s not helping her community, she is the Co-chair of the Pro/CE Committee for ICS. She said being a part of ICS “has helped me with changes in the profession, support, and making lasting friendships with other chiropractors across the state”.

She is passionate about providing great patient care and helping her patients be the best that they can be through chiropractic and acupuncture care.

Dr. Vicki is an associate chiropractor at Waukee Wellness and Chiropractic in Waukee, serving the community as a chiropractor for over 14 years. She is passionate about serving her community, not just as a chiropractor but through her church as well. She is currently a faith formation teacher at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny helping young kids grow and develop in their faith.

“I love working with all age groups and health concerns, with the youngest patient being my son a few hours after his birth and the oldest 100 years young.” Dr. Vicki enjoys working with pregnant women and pediatrics. “This population goes through so many changes and stresses both physically and emotionally, and I love to help restore their nervous system to balance.”

She feels passionate about greeting every patient with a warm smile and a positive vibe to make their visit comfortable and uplifting. She strives to inform and communicate how patients can take charge of their health.

She has held multiple leadership positions both in school and with ICS, and is our current 2nd VP. She is Webster Certified and Perinatal Certified through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and is currently working on her Pediatric Certification. And if that isn’t enough, she also has a Chiropractic Acupuncture Certification with over 100 hours of training.

Not all paths to becoming a chiropractor are the same. Dr. Mickie Yager found her calling a little later in life. She held jobs that just didn’t spark a passion in her. One day she remembered working in a chiropractic office and how that made her feel. She loved the philosophy of serving and helping others and decided to go back to school.

Now Dr. Mickie has the privilege of caring for families, especially pregnant women and children. She is passionate about helping them feel heard, empowered, supported, and confident. “I love to build a genuine connection and trust with the people I care for”. She strives to create a safe, welcoming space where families feel comfortable and cared for.

She actively supports local initiatives through volunteering, fundraising, and donating and leads through service and involvement with her community. “I'm committed to contributing wherever I can to help strengthen and support the families in our community.”

Dr. Lindsey works with her husband, Dr. Bret, as the owners and leaders of both Platinum Chiropractic and Iridium CrossFit in Ames. Dr. Lindsey, a mom with her own active kids, is most passionate about helping families in her community live healthier, more active lives naturally. Whether it’s helping a pregnant mom feel more comfortable, supporting kids as they grow and develop, or keeping athletes and active adults doing what they love, we love seeing people regain confidence in their health and function along with an understanding of how the nervous system, structure, movement, recovery, nutrition, and lifestyle all work together.

We strive to be educators, advocates, and leaders for proactive health in our community. Through chiropractic care, workshops, social media education, fitness, and local involvement, we aim to empower people to take ownership of their health instead of simply reacting to symptoms.

At the Iowa Chiropractic Society, I believe it’s important for chiropractors to stay informed, connected, and supportive of one another. The ICS provides an incredible amount of valuable education, advocacy, and resources for our profession, and because of that, I feel it’s important that we support the organization as well by becoming — and remaining — active members.

Celebrating Women of Chiropractic

In honor of Mabel Palmer’s birthday, June 5, National Women Chiropractors Appreciation Day honors all women of chiropractic. Mabel Heath Palmer was an American Chiropractor and anatomist. She was married to B.J. Palmer and was known as the “First Lady of Chiropractic.” She was one of the first female chiropractors in the world, paving the way for all who followed in her path.
